What to Expect in 2026 at Michigan Institute of Urology

By: Mitchell Hollander, M.D

As the old adage goes, size doesn’t really matter. What matters is the force behind it.

With over 60 urology specialists, Michigan Institute of Urology is the premier urology practice in the great state of Michigan. Yet in 2025, it was the force of each individual team member that enabled us to embrace important opportunities.

These opportunities support our continued growth in innovation, talent, and care. We looked back on the accomplishments in 2025 and what they will mean for our patients and community in 2026. Following is a quick roundup of those milestones and what’s next.

2025 Advancements in Treatments, Technology, and Talent

Our strength depends on a tapestry of individual actions and decisions, each of which supports the whole. Here they are broken down into care, people, and community.

MIU’s Forces in Care

We’ve added three significant services for our patients in 2025, and look forward to a big addition in 2026:

Our Interventional Radiology (IR) Center. MIU entered 2025 with a newly opened IR center, an outpatient destination where specialists use imaging technology (think X-rays) to perform minimally invasive treatments with a focus on vascular procedures. Chief among these procedures is prostatic artery embolization (PAE), a leap forward in treatments for enlarged prostate. In this incision-free approach, our interventional radiologists inject microscopic spheres into the prostatic arteries, reducing blood flow to the tissue so it shrinks. Specialists at our IR Center also treat uterine fibroids, male infertility, hemorrhoids, and even arthritis. Read more about our IR Center here.

Our Expanded In-Office Medication Dispensary (IOD). We continued to expand our IOD medication services at Troy Town Center through proactive patient outreach. Our goal when opening the center was to ensure more men receive treatment for erectile dysfunction and prostate cancer by making prescription fulfillment confidential and easy. Our team at the IOD can help with paperwork for patients who need financial assistance, for example. They also provide medication education, counseling, therapy management, and remind patients to refill their prescriptions. Learn more about our In-Office Medication Dispensary here.

Our progressive Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs). Our two ASCs in Troy and Utica provide same-day diagnostic and surgical care, offering patients an alternative to hospital visits. In 2025, we added low-dose rate (LDR) brachytherapy for prostate cancer. During LDR brachytherapy treatment, our specialists place tiny radioactive seeds into the prostate, where they slowly release cancer-fighting radiation.  Read about our Ambulatory Surgery Centers here.

Coming in 2026: PET/CT Scan technology. To further our breakthrough offerings in prostate cancer care, we are investing in new PET/CT imaging equipment to enable more precise diagnosis and to help determine next-step treatments. This scanning technology allows doctors to see metastatic and recurring prostate cancer cells earlier, throughout the body, so that they can make more thorough decisions about patient treatment. MIU’s Forces in People

We continued to invest in and recruit top-shelf talent in 2025, and that includes some rising-star professionals, to whom we’d like to give a special shout-out:

Our expanding team of advanced practice providers. While not a new addition, our advanced practice providers (APPs) helped meet a growing national demand in 2025. APPs are the medically trained, certified nurses, physician assistants, nurse midwives, and nurse anesthetists who make up an effective medical team. And in 2025, they represented 41% of the national provider workforce due to their complementary roles diagnosing and treating illness, as well as prescribing medications. Our APP team frees doctors to spend more time on care priorities, improving efficiency. You can meet our expanding team of APPs here.

MIU’s Forces in the Community

Many people are shy about calling a specialist for urology or sexual health issues, so we’ve developed a platform to provide free medical education and outreach. In 2025, it included:

Our regularly updated webinar series. The physicians at Michigan Institute of Urology donate their time and expertise to produce a rotation of educational online seminars that inform patients and those caring for loved ones. Topics in 2025 ranged from both male and female sexual challenges to kidney stone prevention to life after prostate cancer. We air these interactive webinars after regular office hours so more people can access them. Additionally, we host all our webinars on our website, so patients can view them when needed. Looking Forward to 2026 with Healthy Optimism

Many other victories shaped the past year at Michigan Institute of Urology, chief among them the bravery of our patients and the everyday lifesaving acts of our team. These day-to-day achievements contribute to a brighter 2026.

We’ll be here for you, and look forward to caring for you. Until then, take care and be kind to yourself.
