On-Site Lab

Testing samples of your urine, blood, or tissue are common occurrences at Michigan Institute of Urology. Results help us properly diagnose your condition and determine the best treatment.

Our on-site lab, located at St. Clair Shores, is a true benefit to our patients. Here’s why:

1. The time between testing and results is much shorter at our on-site lab compared to sending you to a third-party lab.
2. Our lab team has a career-long interest in urologic conditions. We specialize in diagnosing cancers, and problems with urologic organs, so that treatment can begin immediately.
3. We routinely monitor our patients’ urologic conditions and know the signals of disease that is curative and disease that is advancing.

Some of the tests we routinely perform include:

PATHOLOGY LAB SERVICES:

Our pathologists can recognize the presence of urologic cancers so that treatment can begin as soon as possible. Their work includes:

• Urine cytology: A microscopic exam of urine to look for cancerous cells.
• FISH (fluorescence in situ hybridization): A test that detects genetic changes in urine cells early on.
• Tissue analysis/biopsies: Diagnostic tissue testing and analysis for cancer cells.

CLINICAL LAB SERVICES:

With our highly specialized equipment, some of the testing that we perform includes:

• PSA tests: Measures levels of prostate-specific antigens for detecting prostate cancer
• Testosterone and other male hormones: Checks hormone levels in the blood
• Blood and urine tests: Helps evaluate kidney function (BUN, Creatinine, 24-hour urines, etc.)
• Semen analysis: For infertility
