Education & Training

Dr. Elgin received his Bachelor’s degree from Miami University in Ohio, followed by his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his surgical internship at Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills and his urological surgery residency at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine Metro Detroit Consortium.

Dr Elgin is actively involved in medical student and resident education, and is the residency program director for the McLaren Macomb – Michigan State urology residency. He also is on the clinical faculty for Wayne State urology residents. He is also engaged in many research projects, and is involved in Michigan State’s statewide consortium of urology residencies where he helps to coordinate educational programs.

As a specialist in the metabolic management of stone disease and minimally invasive kidney stone surgery, he is involved in multiple research projects including studying post operative pain control and same-day discharge PCNL (a technique used to remove certain stones in the kidney or upper ureter). He is a local leader in kidney stone surgery and receives referrals from across the state.

Dr Elgin is also involved in medical device development and has consulted for major medical technology firms regarding novel devices and surgical systems used to treat kidney stones.

His personal interests include fly fishing, cooking and classic cars.
