Dr. Brian Seifman Named Director of the Division of Urology at Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital
We are pleased to announce that Michigan Institute of Urology (MIU) physician Brian Seifman, M.D., has been named the new Director of the Division of Urology for Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital.
Dr. Seifman succeeds fellow MIU physician Dr. Kenneth Kernen, who has decided to step aside to devote more time to a philanthropic project. During his tenure as director, Dr. Kernen oversaw immense growth within the department, including the landmark introduction of robotic surgery and, more recently, Single Port (SP) robotic surgery to the Troy campus.
Chief of Surgery Bruce McIntosh, M.D., expressed high confidence in Dr. Seifman’s appointment stating, “He has been a valued member of the SSEC [Surgical Services Executive Committee] and will use that insight to continue to guide the department.”
A Legacy of Innovation and Education
Dr. Seifman has been an integral part of the Corewell Health community since starting his practice in 2023. Reflecting on his journey he noted that he is most proud of, “being involved in the robotics and laparoscopic programs since starting my practice. Robotic surgery was in its infancy at the time and now is an invaluable tool that is used everyday by multiple surgical services.”
Over the past few years, Dr. Seifman has dedicated himself to teaching Royal Oak residents at Troy. He highlights Troy’s distinct learning environment, where he has primarily focused on training fourth-year residents in initial robotic skills to seamlessly prepare them for their chief year.
Looking Ahead
As he steps into his new role, Dr. Seifman’s goals focus on continuity and advancement, particularly overseeing the arrival and implementation of Troy’s new Cystoscopy table, a highly specialized surgical table designed specifically for examining, diagnosing, and treating the urinary tract, which is slated to arrive this fall.
Please join us in thanking Dr. Kernen for his years of exceptional leadership and congratulating Dr. Seifman on his new role.
