Becker’s interviews Bonnie Greenblatt, Director of Ambulatory Surgical Services at MIU, as part of its discussion on the evolution of ASC ownership models
Bonnie Greenblatt, Director of Ambulatory Surgical Services at Michigan Institute of Urology, recently joined Becker’s and other ASC leaders to discuss the evolution of ASC ownership models.
Greeblatt highlighted the significant changes in ASC ownership models that have occurred over the past few years. She noted the emergence of various models, including traditional physician ownership, private equity involvement, and hospital and health system ownership, as well as consolidation and platform alliances.
Looking ahead, Greenblatt anticipates a shift towards more hybridized and joint venture models, moving away from purely physician or practice-owned facilities. This trend is driven by payers increasingly pushing for procedures to be performed in ASCs rather than hospitals, leading hospitals and health systems to seek partnerships with large private equity groups and larger platform alliances. The ultimate goal, she suggests, is the creation of “mega-ASC platforms” to accommodate this growing demand for outpatient care.
