Michael Gerald Cotant, M.D., is a partner of the Michigan Institute of Urology, P.C., and has practiced in Metropolitan Detroit since 1992. Dr. Cotant is Board Certified in Urology by the American Board of Urology and is experienced in all aspects of adult Urology. He is skilled in all minimally invasive therapies for benign prostate enlargement as well as brachytherapy seed implantation for prostate cancer. Prior to merging with our practice, Dr. Cotant was with the North Woodward Urological Associates.
Dr. Cotant received a Bachelor of Arts from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan in 1980. He received his Master of Science Degree in 1982 and his Medical Degree in 1987 from Wayne State University. He completed his Internship in surgery in 1988, his Surgical Residency in 1989 and his Urology Residency in 1992 at the Detroit Medical Center. Dr. Cotant received a Distinguished Service Award in 1987 from the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
Dr. Cotant is affiliated with St. Joseph Oakland Mercy Hospital and Huron Valley Sinai Hospital. He is certified in the use of CO2, YAG and dye lasers. He is part of a team doing DaVinci robotic kidney, bladder and prostate surgery. He is available to see patients in our Pontiac and Clarkston offices.
Dr. Cotant is an active member of the Oakland County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Urological Associates and the North Central Cancer Treatment Group. In addition, Dr. Cotant has served as the Director of the North Oakland Medical Center Urogynecolgy Clinic from 1993-2000. He is the current Chief of Urology at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital.
