Bryan P. Shumaker, M.D.

Bryan P. Shumaker, M.D. is a partner in the Michigan Institute of Urology, P.C. He has practiced in Metropolitan Detroit since 1980. Dr. Shumaker is board certified in the specialty of Urology by the American Board of Urology. He specializes in all areas of adult Urology with special interest in laser surgery, prostate disease and erectile dysfunction.

Dr. Shumaker graduated from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. He received his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1974. His post-doctoral training included a surgical internship at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington Kentucky from 1975 to 1976, and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan for his second surgical year of residency from 1976 to 1977. He completed his Urology Residency at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center attending from 1977 to 1980.

Dr. Shumaker is active in Clinical Research through the Michigan Institute of Urology and conducts FDA clinical drug and surgical device trials. He has served in an advisory capacity to many major companies developing medical, surgical and laser devices. He has written many peer reviewed publications especially regarding the use of laser devices in Urologic surgery.

Dr. Shumaker is affiliated with St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital and Huron Valley - Sinai Hospital.

Dr. Shumaker is a member of the Michigan State Medical Society, American Medical Association, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Southeastern Michigan Surgical Society, Michigan Urological Association, the American Urological Association, North Central Section, American College of Surgeons, Society of Laproscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery, He served as President of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery from 1998 to 1999 and has served as the Urology Section Chief for the same organization in 1988, 1989, 1992, 1996 and 1997.

Dr. Shumaker's hobbies include photography, flying, astronomy and writing. He has published a science fiction book for children.
