Richard P. Abramson, M.D.

Richard Philip Abramson, M.D. is an associate of the Michigan Institute of Urology, P.C. Dr. Abramson is Board Certified in Urology by the American Board of Urology. Dr. Abramson specializes in all aspects of Pediatric Urology and has a special interest in minimally invasive Pediatric Urologic Surgery. He has been practicing Pediatric Urology since 1995.

Dr. Abramson received a Bachelor of Science from Long Island University, Brookville, New York in 1981. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Albany Medical College of Union University, Albany, New York in 1986. His General Surgical Internship and Residency was completed at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York, New York in 1988. Urological Residency was completed at Lenox Hill Hospital, New York, New York in 1992. Dr. Abramson completed a one year Research Fellowship in Pediatric Urology at The New York Hospital, Cornell Medical Center, in 1993 and a two year Clinical Fellowship in Pediatric Urology at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, Canada in 1995.

Dr. Abramson then became the Founding Chief of the Division of Pediatric Urology at Valley Children's Hospital, Fresno, California (1995-2000) and subsequently served as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Urology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Abramson received additional training in Pediatric Urological Surgery at Boston Children's Hospital, Massachusetts prior to joining the Michigan Institute of Urology, P.C. in July of 2001.

Dr. Abramson has written and published several articles on Pediatric Urological issues in national journals and has presented at national meetings. He has recently written and published a chapter on pediatric neurogenic bladder dysfunction for the Pediatric Clinics of North America. He lectures regularly at numerous hospitals throughout southeast Michigan on various topics in Pediatric Urology.

Dr. Abramson was voted by his peers to be one of the "Top Doc's in Pediatric Urology in 2006" by Detroit Hour Magazine, and received the "Patients' Choice Award in 2008".

Dr. Abramson's hospital affiliations include William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and Troy campuses, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Clinton Township, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, Pontiac, Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, Commerce, and Oakwood Hospital, Dearborn.

Dr. Abramson is a member of the following organizations: The Society of Pediatric Urology, The Society of Fetal Urology, Fellow American Academy of Pediatrics (F.A.A.P), The American Urological Association, The North Central Section of the American Urological Association, The American Medical Association, and the American Association of Clinical Urologists.

Dr. Abramson's hobbies include tennis and skiing.

Dr. Abramson is available to see patients at the following locations: Utica, Town Center, Clarkston, West Bloomfield (Haggerty Road), and Dearborn.

Dr. Abramson is on staff at the following hospitals: William Beaumont Royal Oak, Troy Beaumont, Henry Ford Macomb, Henry Ford West Bloomfield, St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, Oakwood, and Huron Valley-Sinai. He also performs ambulatory outpatient surgery at the West Bloomfield (Haggerty Road), Dearborn, Utica and Clarkston office locations.

Focus Areas: Dr. Abramson specializes in minimally invasive surgery using very tiny incisions, pediatric urologic surgery, endoscopic surgical correction of vesicoureteral reflux using Deflux injections.
